March 2023

Updated: Jun 4, 2023

Guest Speaker Kaleem Nazeem, Author.

This month, we welcome special guest Kaleem Nazeem. Kaleem is a former Arkansas inmate who now advocates on behalf of criminal justice reform. He says educational programs are a much more effective to way to reduce crime than building new prisons. His short and powerful book, linked HERE, uses Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs tp show that the carceral system in Arkansas is set up to not only deny all of those needs, but promotes recidivism because of it. We encourage our members to read this 70 page publication to gain insight into the Arkansas Prison Industrial System.

This month's books:

Broken Pyramid of Trauma- How the Prison System Promotes Recidivism – by Kaleem Nazeem

Punishment Without a Crime – How our Massive Misdemeanor System Traps the Innocent and Makes America More Unequal – by Alexandra Natapoff

Criminality in Context – The Psychological Foundations of Criminal Justice Reform – by Craig Haney
